The Alliance of the Indigenous Peoples of the Kayan Mentarang National Park, Indonesia


Explore the remarkable story of the 2020 Equator Prize winner, The Alliance of the Indigenous Peoples of the Kayan Mentarang National Park. This coalition of 11 Indigenous groups advocates for the rights of communities on 20,000 square kilometers of ancestral land in Northern Kalimantan. Through a collaborative management approach, FoMMA has secured legal recognition for 2,500 square kilometers of their territories, empowering local stewardship and promoting sustainable economies while protecting vital rainforest ecosystems. The Salween Peace Park, Myanmar


Learn how the 2020 Equator Prize winner The Salween Peace Park is revitalizing a conflict-affected area of South-Eastern Myanmar. Spanning 5,400 square kilometers, this sanctuary is led by the Karen people and integrates traditional practices with sustainable resource management. By promoting organic agriculture, the park empowers local communities to rebuild their livelihoods while preserving ecological integrity and celebrating Karen Indigenous identity.
